Privacy policy
Our calculators run in your browser and never send your entered numbers to a server.
What our calculators do
The position size and margin calculators on Veld Terminal run entirely in your browser. When you type a number, it stays on your device and is never sent to our server or to any third party. We cannot see what you enter, and we do not log it.
This is deliberate, because a trader's position size can reveal their account balance and risk appetite. We have no interest in that data. The only thing we might see is that a calculator page was loaded, as part of aggregate traffic.
Traffic data we collect
We collect only aggregate traffic counts: how many visits each page gets, which country the visitor is in, and which browser they use. We do not collect IP addresses in a way that identifies an individual, and we do not build a profile of you across sites. This data helps us know which articles are useful.
We do not use advertising trackers that follow you around the web. If we ever change that, we will update this policy and explain why. For now, the only cookies on Veld Terminal are strictly necessary for the site to work, and they do not store personal information.
Local storage and broker cookies
Veld Terminal uses local storage in your browser to remember your own preferences, such as whether you prefer dark mode or which calculator you used last. This data never leaves your device and can be cleared by deleting your browser data. We do not read it remotely.
If you click an affiliate link and go to a broker's website, that broker sets its own cookies under its own privacy policy. We have no control over those cookies and no access to the data they collect. Please read the broker's policy before you open an account.
What Veld Terminal stores and what it never touches
Veld Terminal stores only the bare minimum needed to make the calculators work: the numbers you type, the instrument you select, and the results shown on screen, kept in your browser's local storage so the page can refresh without losing your position. We do not store your name, email address, phone number, ID number, physical address, or any payment details because we never ask for them. The site has no account system, no login, and no database of user profiles, so there is nothing personal sitting on a server that could be linked back to you. Any mention of R or ZAR on the page is just a display label, not a record of your bank balance or transaction history, and it disappears when you close the tab unless you have deliberately saved it as a bookmark in your own browser.
Veld Terminal does not keep a copy of the numbers you enter after you navigate away. The calculators run entirely in your browser: when you type a gold position size or a leverage figure, that value stays on your device and is used to compute margin, pip value, or potential profit and loss in rand. Nothing is transmitted to our hosting provider as a form submission, because there is no form to submit. The only exception is if you choose to copy a result and paste it into another app, which is outside our control. We also do not read your clipboard, your open tabs, or your browser history, and we have no way to see what other sites you visit before or after Veld Terminal, even if you follow a broker link from our page.
The site itself is built from static files that are the same for every visitor, so there is no personalised content stored about you. When you open Veld Terminal, the server sends the same HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to everyone, and the calculations happen locally. We do not use web beacons, fingerprinting scripts, or any technique that tries to identify you as an individual across sessions. If you clear your browser's local storage for this site, every trace of your calculator inputs and results is gone immediately, and the next visit starts fresh. There is no archive, no backup of user data, and no way for us to restore something you deleted, because it was never on our side in the first place.
Cookies Veld Terminal uses and the job each one does
Veld Terminal sets one strictly necessary cookie to remember your preference for the calculator display, such as whether you want amounts shown in rand or US dollars, and that cookie lasts for the current browser session only. It is not used for tracking, advertising, or profiling, and it is deleted when you close the browser unless you have changed your browser settings to keep session cookies for longer. We do not set any first-party cookies for analytics or marketing, so there is no cookie that follows you around the web. If you block all cookies, the calculators still work; you will simply be asked to choose your display currency again each time you open the page, which is a minor inconvenience rather than a loss of function.
The only third-party cookies that may appear when you use Veld Terminal come from the broker links you choose to click. When you click a button that says something like "Open an account with FxPro" or "Trade gold on MT4", you are leaving our site and going to FxPro's own domain, and FxPro may set cookies on your device for its own purposes, including session management, security, and advertising. We do not control those cookies, we cannot read them, and they are governed by FxPro's privacy policy rather than this one. If you never click a broker link, no third-party cookies from brokers will be set by our site, because we do not embed any broker scripts, pixels, or iframes on Veld Terminal pages.
We do not use cookies for affiliate tracking on Veld Terminal itself. The links to FxPro that appear on this site are plain hyperlinks with no cookie-based tracking parameters added by us, and we do not drop an affiliate cookie on your device before you leave. Any tracking that happens after you click is managed by FxPro and its own systems, not by Veld Terminal. If you want to see what cookies are active on your browser at any moment, you can check your browser's developer tools or settings, and you will see that a typical Veld Terminal visit produces at most one session cookie from our domain and nothing else until you actively click through to a broker. Clearing cookies for veldterminal.co.za removes that session preference, and clearing cookies for fxpro.com removes any broker-side cookies if you have visited their site.
Affiliate tracking on Veld Terminal, stated without fine print
Veld Terminal may earn a commission if you open a broker account through a link on this site and then trade, and that commission is paid by the broker, not by you. The amount you pay in spreads, commissions, or swaps is not increased because you arrived via Veld Terminal, and the broker does not charge you any extra fee for using our link. We disclose this plainly because it is the only financial relationship between this site and any broker. When you click an FxPro link, the URL may contain a simple parameter that tells FxPro you came from Veld Terminal, but that parameter does not identify you personally; it identifies our site as the referring partner.
The affiliate link does not change the trading conditions you see at FxPro. Whether you sign up through Veld Terminal or go directly to fxpro.com and open an account, the leverage cap for retail clients in South Africa remains up to 1:200, and the margin required for a 0.10-lot gold position at that cap is about $85.50. We do not receive any information about your trades, your balance, or your identity from FxPro, because the affiliate relationship is limited to a referral marker. FxPro's privacy policy explains what data it collects from you as a client, and that is separate from anything Veld Terminal does.
If you prefer not to use an affiliate link, you can type the broker's address directly into your browser or search for it yourself, and the calculators on Veld Terminal will work exactly the same. We do not hide the affiliate relationship behind vague wording like "partner" or "sponsored", and we do not use link cloaking that obscures the destination. The link text always tells you where you are going, such as "FxPro MT4" or "FxPro cTrader", and the URL in the status bar will show the broker's domain. This site is free to use because of these referral fees, but the content and calculations are not influenced by the broker; the numbers come from the formulas we explain, not from a marketing department.
Third parties that touch your data when you use Veld Terminal
Veld Terminal itself does not share your data with any third party because it does not collect personal data in the first place. The only third parties involved are the broker you choose to click through to, and that involvement begins only when you click. FxPro is the broker linked from this site, and the entity that serves South Africa is FxPro Markets Direct Costa Rica Latam SRL. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC, and an FxPro entity holds an FSCA licence in South Africa — check which entity your own account is opened with. Once you are on FxPro's site, their privacy policy applies, and they may collect the information needed to open and manage a trading account, such as your name, proof of address, and funding method.
The hosting provider for Veld Terminal has access to server logs, which include your IP address, the pages you request, and the time of the request. This is standard for any website and is necessary to keep the site online and secure. We have configured the server to keep these logs for a short period and to not use them for marketing or profiling. We do not embed any social media widgets, comment systems, or third-party login buttons, so no Facebook, Google, or X scripts run on our pages. That means those companies do not receive data about your visit to Veld Terminal through our site, unless you manually share a link to our page on your own social media account.
If you fund a broker account using local cards or bank transfers in ZAR, or e-wallets, the payment provider and your bank will process that transaction, but Veld Terminal is not part of that chain. We never see your card number, bank account details, or e-wallet login, and we do not store any payment information. The calculators on this site do not connect to any payment processor, and there is no checkout or subscription. Any payment you make is directly to the broker, and the broker is responsible for its own payment security and data handling. Veld Terminal's only financial interaction is receiving a referral commission from the broker, which is paid to us as a business, not tied to any individual user's activity that we can see.
Your rights under South African law and how to exercise them
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the right to know what personal information an organisation holds about you, to request access to it, to ask for correction or deletion, and to object to processing. Because Veld Terminal does not collect, store, or process any personal information, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete. If you have only used the calculators and have not clicked a broker link, the only data about you is the server log entry, which contains your IP address and is deleted within a short retention period. To exercise any right against Veld Terminal, you can contact us through the email address listed on the site, and we will confirm in writing that we hold no personal data about you.
If you have clicked through to FxPro and opened an account, your personal information is held by FxPro, and you can exercise your POPIA rights directly with them. FxPro's privacy policy explains how to request access, correction, or deletion of your data, and how to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator if you are not satisfied. The regulator caveat matters here: FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK) and CySEC, and an FxPro entity holds an FSCA licence in South Africa — check which entity your own account is opened with, because that determines which data protection law applies. For South African residents, POPIA still gives you baseline rights, but the specific procedures may vary by entity.
You also have the right to refuse cookies and to clear local storage at any time. Your browser settings allow you to block all cookies, delete specific site data, and prevent websites from storing information on your device. If you block local storage for Veld Terminal, the calculators will still work, but they will not remember your display currency between sessions. You do not need to contact us to exercise this right; it is entirely under your control in your browser. If you believe that Veld Terminal has violated POPIA despite our no-collection stance, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, whose contact details are available on their official website, and we will cooperate fully with any investigation.
